Starting Problem

HI, I have a starting problem with my car
Its a 87 260E..... basically i got it checked out
Im not getting no spark coming out of the ignition coil wire
nothing at alllllllll...... i check the current go to the ignition coil
it seams to be ok........
do u think the ignition coil is bad and its not trasforming the voltage?
or can i it be the ignition control unit? ( very costly )?
this is the only 2 things i been told that could be the problem
PLease help thanks

It seems so simple if only two choices; I hate to mess up your diagnostics. Unfortunately there is at least one other possibility. That is the engine speed sensor.

The control unit uses the speed and cyl identification signals to control the timing of the coil field collapse. Have you checked current or voltage? Did the circuit open and close? The coil only makes a high voltage spark when its low voltage (high current) field collapses. Just running 6-8amps through the coil won't do anything but make it into an electro magnet.

Thanks alot for your help.
I checked the current and the voltage from the ignition coil.
The ignition coil has current on both terminals when the ignition is on. I also checked in OHMS from terminal to terminal
that is readin from 0-1 and i checked from the postive terminal to the coil wire and it showed about 8,000ohms.
I really dont know where to start. Should i just change my ignition coil and go for it?
and where is the speed sensor located?
And what tests can i do to check it out?
