SLOOOOOOW C180. 0-100km/h in 18 secs

Hi Everyone,

I am interested in buying a 95 C180, but it is REALLY slow. As I understand, its supposed to do the 0-100 dash in 12.2 secs, but as per the subject line, it does it in about 18 with the AC off, and in S mode.

The engine runs very smoothly under all conditions, and the cat converter is new.

It seems that below 2000rpm it does almost nothing, and that above 2000rpm it picks up noticeably.

There are no fault codes. The car had the engine wiring loom replaced a few years ago.

Thanks!

I would suspect throttle linkage adjustment.

Thanks Doc. How can this be checked? It seems to change gear at redline when under full throttle if this is any indication.

I love the car but it is just soooooo slow.

The accelerator cable is designed to open the butterfly in the throttle completely.

There is a section of linkage that controls that operation. Checking the position of the throttle butterfly while someone holds the accelerator pedal at full throttle is the only way to make sure the adjustment is correct. OF that is done with the key OFF.

Doc,

No luck, it opens all the way. One thing I've just noticed (might be my imagination) is that when under full acceleration it SORT OF feels like its surging? Might be my imagination.

C180 performance issues

Does this engine have variable valve timing, or similar?

Doc and others.

I've just done some reading up on HFM and now understand a bit more about it. Could it be that on account of a blocked fuel filter, the throttle does not open as it should, to avoid misfiring, etc?
