Anybody have a time for swapping out the diff on a 123?

I talked to my indie today and asked how much to swap in my LSD on my dedicated autocrosser.....five hours....Ouch!

Does anybody think this is wrong?

I have done it in 2hr:15m ...but that was two of us.

3 of us replaced a starter nose bearing in a 1965 VW T2 some time ago.....in 40 minutes.

Okay...let's hear some more stories about how fast you changed some thing.

I just replaced my Axles on the w123 and id say 3-5 hours is fair expecially if there is any shimming required.

The diff is stock except for the insides which include the lsd carrier, which should not affect anything.

What would you need shims for?

I've just been through this -- twice!! -- on a w126, which is not that different, just longer.

It takes very little time to remove the WHOLE rear end assembly, maybe 45 minutes to an hour, depending on tools. It takes longer to install another, as much as 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

But shops use things like Alldata to estimate, and Alldata says it takes 6 hours. With a lift, and a tranny lift, it's not that difficult, but what're ya gonna do....
