Fastlane Woes: Engine Range vs. Item number
so was there some kind of change to the way Fastlane/Worldpac does their parts? it seems that lately when looking for parts I now have to select from an "engine range" that uses numbers that I know nothing about. As far as I know my cars engine is an M104, Fastlane's numbers:
-12-072236 12-102821- 12-072237-12-108820 dont mean much to me. can you help? I'm in need of the serpentine belt for my 1995 E320 wagon, but now there are 3 different belts, with 3 different lengths, 3 different part numbers and of course 3 different prices. How can I possibly know which is the correct one for my vehicle? |

There's 3 different parts - engine #s 1 to 72,236, 72,237 to 108,820, and 108821 and above. You need to find the last six digits of your engine number, which can be looked up on the Russian site by entering your VIN.

weird update.
the last six digits of my engine are 069712 according to that russian site as per my VIN. following the list on fastlane that puts in the "-12-072236" catagory. so the part that comes up is a multirib belt with a length of 2415mm. I look in the owners manual and it states that the belt should be the 2445mm version. So I dont know where the inconsitanly lies, but I obtaind the 2415 belt and I supposed I'll try to install it. the math tells me there is just over an inch difference. I dont know how much play is in the system or if the tensioner takes care of it. |

Keep in mind the catalog system Fastlane uses is not produced by them, they and many other part suppliers subscribe to use it. When there is an error they may send a request to make the correction. If you know the proper MB part# for your car I would stick by it regardless of what the catalog states.
You can always call or email them to verify a part# as I have many times in the past.

well I took the old belt off and it was a 2415mm belt. so either the MB manual is wrong (or generaically written) or the previous owner, an MB tech for the largest MB dealership in ATL, fell into the same trap as myself. I installed the new 2415 belt and everything went swimmingly. Nice and tight with just the right ammount of deflection. Had I used a 2445 belt, that whole extra inch would make it very sloppy I imagine. than again maybe the tensioner is supossed to take that up. Thats a question for a new thread.

Could be a typo...
Let Hunter know about it, hopefully he can have some effect on a correction to the database?
I can attest that the Worldpac database has several known errors, particularly with regard to the engine wiring harness section. The MB Startec shows a different application for a harness that Worldpac said would work and guess what./ I had to buy a second harness from a local dealer when the Worldpac supplied harness did not fit (no I didnlt get it from Fastlane) Anyone need an a124 440-29 33 harness? |
