2000 C280 Suspension Help
I have a 2000 C280 Sport where the spring pearch has rotted away. Is this a replaceable part or do I have to get a welder to repair the damaged area?
This is on the passenger front side. Car has 307K Thanks rob |

This is the first time I have heard this happening to a W202 chassis car.
It has been documented in W124 chassis cars, and a bunch of W210 E class cars. Any body shop that is familiar with Mercedes should be able to handle it. Read this thread. Your problem is the same. There should be pictures and a description of what parts are replaced and welded in. W210 Spring Perch Failure - Please read.

Paul,
Thank you for the education by providing me that link. I have had this car since 2000 and after 300K I felt that I couldn't complain about the past issues with MB. After reading the links associated with the Perch failures I guess that I am in for another battle with these folks. The local dealer here has a history of being less than honest. So I will see if they will fix this but I'm sure this will not happen. I am very dissapoi9nted in the so called luxury car markets. Its like TV vs Cable TV with quality offerings. TV is 13 channels of junk and cable is 250 channels of junk. At the end of the day you either pay for junk or pay for more junk - - its still junk. 8 yr old car and a spring perch brings the car to its knees! I'm truly depressed since my wife and child are in this car often at higheay speeds. Luckily it failed with me with no adverse outcome. |
