1994 W140 Sunroof Will Not Close

Hello:

The sunroof of my 1994 W140 stops two inches short of closing, however it opens fully.

I have tried pulling it closed with my hand while pressing the close button, no movement forward.

I have tried the manual procedure in the trunk, no movement forward.

I have tried driving over bumps, railroad tracks, etc. while pressing the close button, no movement forward.

I have searched the forum. Most sunroof issues seem to pertain to the opening of the roof, not its closing. The ones relating to the closing discuss problems with the air deflector not lowering. I do not believe that to be my problem because the sunroof does not get close enough to the deflector for it to lower.

I have also tried holding the deflector down while pressing the close button, still not movement forward.

I hope that I do not need to remove the interior headliner for this repair, as that would be a shame.

Please advise. Your insight is welcomed. Thank you very much.
