1998 C230 recommended oil ?

What weight oil should I use in a 1998 C230 w/ 34k miles on it ?
I have no idea what was used in the past on this vehicle, it is an x-mbcc lease vehicle that I purchased used without service records. Also, any special instructions regarding the oil filter...
(elaborate filter with seal and a washer ). Also, any stand out mechanical issues with this vehicle I should know about ? I have heard of head gasket leak issues in c280's. Thanks.
