300se w126 no start
my car is an 89 w126 300se.
my problem is that the car wont start. It turns over and sometimes the engine actually catches, but only for a moment. it then just dies. It seems like the engine isn't getting any fuel. I do have half a tank of gas in the car. I have checked for spark already, that is fine. I drove it too school and when I got in the car after school it simply would not start. Any help would be great! |

Do you hear the fuel pump working? If not, bypass the fuel pump relay by pulling it out and bridging socket terminals 7 & 8. You should then hear the fuel pump come alive. Do you have any knowledge of when the fuel filter was last replaced?

I have no knowledge when it was replaced. I know my engine and tranny were rebuilt a bit after 150k miles. My car is at 247k now(I have only owned it since 245k). Im not too knowledgeable of the layout under the hood. Where might this FPR be? and will I clearly know what socket terminals 7 and 8 are? any pictures would be great!

I'd try replacing the fuel filter before I started messing around too much with the fuel pump.

try tapping on the fuel pump with hammer lightly this will jar the pump and the car may start and run long enough to get where you are going,you should hear the pump energize
when you turn key on |

Ok so i took the relay out today and bridged 87 and 30. I heard my pump start working. Then I took the relay and wacked it twice on the sidewalk. Put it back in and my car started. I now have it back home which is good. My question now is, do I need to replace my Relay or should I try and open it and fix any loose connections. Or just hope my car works and repeat if it ever has these issues again?

well I opened it up and all the solder joints look fine, all are nice and smooth looking. So do this then mean that the hardware of the relay is bad? More specifically does it mean I need a new relay?

Easiest way to get one would be through this site. Click "Buy Parts" at the top of the page, then call either Roy or Phil and they'll hook you up with a new relay.

I would love to give this site the money, but they charge so much for everything. I found a Relay for $80 at ********.com

The FPR is under the intake manifold, and if it isn't leaking, chances are it's ok. There's a hard plastic vacuum line that comes out of the end and connects to the large rubber hose on the valve cover. Make sure it is connected.
I recommend replacing the fuel filter. It's the metal canister just above the fuel pump. The condition of the fuel filter is critical to the operation of the M103 engine because of its dual purpose: filtering and dampening pulsations. A moderately clogged filter will result in intermittent problems.

Would these issues include random poor acceleration? I say random because there seems to be hesitation, but it does not matter the outside temperature and it might do it after it just accelerated just fine.
