Tremendous forum!! Can someone advise please?

My 190E cuts out occasionally (no patterns noticed). It happens intermittently when I take the foot off the gas pedal and brake. It doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold and normally happens when I'm travelling at speed i.e. on the highway or 60km/hr or more. The revs go down and then the engine dies quietly.

I have checked and renewed the vacuum hoses and this didn't cure it. I'm wondering if it could be the deceleration microswitch. Where can I find this switch?

when was the last time you have changed your
fuel filter? replace it if you haven't, before attempting
any other fix.

I am having the same problem with mine. I will be anxiously awaiting the responses. I talked to someone about the fuel filter but wouldn't that be more of a problem when the engine needs more fuel as opposed to when the RPM's are going down? I appreciate any responses as this can be a fairly dangerous situation.

Thanks for the advice Joel. You're right. I think the fuel filter has not been replaced for a long time. It certainly has not been replaced since I have had the car (about 1 year).I'll schedule it in during my next service.

I read another thread about the someone experiencing a similar problem and they replaced the Throttle Position Switch. This morning, I had a look at mine and it was covered in thick oily deposits. I cleaned the unit and the small roller this morning with WD40 and just came back from a test drive. The engine is responding a lot smoother and it didn't cut out no matter how hard I tried.

So...Kodiak, I don't know if this has cured my problem, but I don't think there is any harm in taking a look at the Throttle Position Microswitch.

I'll monitor the progress and post an update after a few days.

Most of the time we find that this is caused by a faulty spot in the fuel mixture housing sensor. This is the 3 pin sensor located on the side of the housing just below the fuel distributor.

The Good news: Somehow, cleaning up the throttle position microswitch has improved the ride tremendously.

The bad news: The engine stalled twice today!! Back to square one.

I had a look at the contacts of the electromagnetic pressure actuator (fuel mixture sensor)and cleaned them up. I couldn't spot anything wrong. I'll drive some more tomorrow and see if this has made a difference.

Benzmac, can you please clarify what you mean by "a faulty spot"? How can the electromagnetic pressure actuator be diagnosed? Your guidance would be much appreciated.

Where is the throttle position sensor, and how do you clean it? I have a similar problem (symptom) on my 95 C280...

Still early days, but the engine didn't stall once today. Hopefully, I just needed to clean the contacts!

A good tip for anyone experiencing similar problems would be to first clean all Fuel Control System contacts and microswitches and see if that makes a difference.

My 190 cosworth does the same. eha and air flow sw replaced with no result aaaaand still trying to sort it out. Got so bad i disconected the decel sw which cures it but stuffs up the idle speed, too fast. I also will watch with interest. I believe the computer for some reason over compensates and adjusts the idle valve too much. Why is anybodys guess

A week gone by and I have done about 200km of city & highway driving. The engine stalled once on the first morning going into work - probably the ECU still adjusting itself. Since then, it has not stalled at all. Touch wood??
