Smile Finding a JR Filter #421

Need help in finding how to buy the JR Filter #421 active carbon filter for the cabin air of my '92 300E. It only seems to be available in Europe. Anybody know where I can get one or an equivalent. THANKS!!!

300e didn't have a cabin air filter until 94 or 95 E320

AFAIK the 300E didn't have the capacity for a cabin air filter until the 94 or 95 E320. My 93 300E has no cabin air filter or pollen filter and no way to retrofit on if desired.

Thanks! I know my car does not have a factory cabin air filter. This is an aftermarket filter which fits outside and is made by JR Filters in France. I am looking for a parts distributor either here in the US or somewhere overseas.

Take a photo and post it

All I am finding is the HEPA replacement Air Purifier filters and Furance filters (see links below)

http://www.healthpurifiers.com/healthmate-jr-filters.shtml

http://www.air-purifiers-superstore.com/turbo_odor_ban_jr_carbon_furnace_filters.html

There appear to be a lot of UK and OZ dealers found thru Google but it appears that the non medical applictions are not imported.

Saw this filter on www.124performance.com/images during some surfing of the Tech Forum. Go to the web site, click on w124 dash, then click on HVAC filters pages 1 thru 5. The filter is installed outside under the hood. If you or anyone knows how to contact the guy who has this web site, maybe we can find out how and where he got this filter. This filter is for pre 94-95 MBZ 300E/W124 cars. It is an aftermarket product.

The 300E blower didn't have the cubic feet per minute (cfm) capacity for a cabin air filter until the 94 or 95 E320.
Using an aftermarket cabin air filter can overload/burnout the existing blower motor.

have a great day

Thanks for your insight!!! Guess I'll just have to live with the dust. I still love my '92 300E. In my opinion, the last of the great MBZ's.

There is no evidence of any motor failures. I have had no troubles at all with the JR filter installed, and the other people I know using them also have had no problems. While the later blowers (94-95) with the factory dust filter are different, it is simply a physical size difference to allow room for the filters (see photos below).

Also, when the HVAC system is in full recirculation mode, the outside air intake is totally blocked off. These filters, even if totally plugged and allowing zero fresh air intake, would simply make the HVAC system operate in full recirculation mode all the time. I would not worry about it at all. The filters are washable, btw.

About a source... here's the reply I received from JR directly:

==============================
Hello
We have no distributor in the USA. We can send the filter directly to
you. Filter 421 is 34.00 euros, + sending cost of 21.00 euros.

Best regards

Ahem........a little "engineering education" and one of the very first questions that I have asked in any of my mechanical engineering classes:

"If you shut the supply flow off, be it hydraulic (water, oil, etc.) or gaseous (air, etc.) what results will you see concerning the pumping medium (the pump, the blower motors)? How does squelching the supply affect the motor, in other words?
Guess what, class. It takes less energy to pump (or blow) 50GPM (or 50 cu ft) than it does to pump or blow twice that amount.
Don't believe me, take an Amprobe to your central air furnace/ac with a clean filter and with a dirty fulter.

^LOL your post is confusing, Professor. Are you stating whunter is wrong, or gsxr? Because you quoted whunter, who's assessment agrees with your pontification. Whunter is never wrong. Gsxr is never wrong either.

See, now you are stating the obvious.
