420 SEL trim question

Hello,

I'm not sure what to call it so I will describe it instead. This question concerns the piece of upholstered trim on the pillar between the front and back doors.

How do I remove this trim piece?

Thank you for all replies.

The "B" pillar trim piece pulls/slides downward after removing two screws holding separate plastic trim piece at floor. May need to unbolt seatbelt at anchor point there to get seatbelt through, but I think it snakes through opening OK. Is your foam backed vinyl delaminating? Mine is

jbaj007,

It's not so much delaminating as it is shreding around the adjustable seatbelt window. I can't believe more people don't have this problem because every car I looked at suffered from this. Have you found a solution or an upholstery that will repair it?

fredsegal: Mine's just delaminated in a daily driver so I'll glue it down with some 3M trim adhesive. If yours needs re-upholstery, Markel's Auto Interiors on No. La Cieniga in L.A. does a lot of Mercedes and has seen every problem imaginable. Dennis Hauswirth is the owner and a good guy. I actually haven't seen the shredding problem, but this SoCal sun sure wreaks havoc with the Teutonic foam and trim adhesives, doesn't it? It seems like all of them have some adherance problem after a few years.

I had the same problem on my 560SEL, around the adjustable area on the seatbelt anchor. I had the trims pulled and reglued as mine hadn't shredded at the edges and was okay to use. I used a professional upholstery place but can't tell you how much it was as I had some other work done at the same time.
