1986 420 SEL CCU Removal

I have read the incrediably great info on this site but cannot find any details on the removal of the CCU out of a 1986 420 SEL. I removed the two screws in the bottom of the wood trim after removing the radio - however, it seems there are two distinct types of switch mountings in the wood. The top row (Emergency Flashers, back light, recirculate air) seem to come out via the from but the remaing from the back. Does this sound correct? I bought the complete set of manuals for the car when I bought it in 1986 but the manuals are worthless!!!

Thanks in advance for any directions.

In defense of manuals, they are designed for technicians; who aren't much interested in how to take things apart.

Thanks for the feedback - got it out - just a little hesitation on my part - compeltely disassembled the unit and found the three solder joints on the bottom of the potentiometer were all loose!!!

FIXED IT - now works fine!! First test drive after fixing - took the family to eat - car would not start...removed the air filter cover off - opened the flap and aired it out for about five minutes - and now we are off and running!!!

Thanks to all for the feedback!!!

Mark
