1989 190e 2.6 Running Rich - Help!

Hey Guys,

New to the ShopForum. I have already found it very helpful for many questions I had. I tried searching for this, and all I got was carpal tunnel. I just picked up a 1989 190e 2.6 5 Speed.

All is generally well, but the car is running VERY rich.

Previous owner replaced: Plugs, Wires, Distributor Cap, Rotor, and 02 Sensor.

Car starts great, nothing out of the ordinary. Starts right up, idles right, no black smoke, but as it reaches operating temp. it begins to load up & run rich. Then it starts to smoke black.

Driving the car is difficult ( I had to get it home), sitting at the stoplights the car loads up, the black smoke begins and it bogs badly off the line until it 'clears out'. If I accelerate hard out of a toll booth, there will usually be a large black cloud when I first get on it, then it clears up.

Has anyone had a similar problem? What are some things I should check? I appreciate it!!
