Code 12 on a '93 190e 2.3

I've got a check engine light, and I pulled the code "12" off. Apparently it translates to "Exhaust gas recirculation temperature sensor". So is this telling me a temp sensor is bad or that the sensor has detected a problem with the EGR system???

Any help would be appreciated...
