1989 420 SEL High Idle - warm engine
This is a 1989 420 SEL with 275,000 KM. The problem is that it starts great, normal idle 625-650 rpm in neutral. After driving 30 min. 85c engine, the car is turned off for 10 min. It is started again, starts ok, but in about 10 sec. ABS light comes on, transmission in neutral, engine almost stalls and then surges to 2,000 rpm and slow lowers down to 650 and then surges again, 1,100 rpm maybe up to 2,000 rpm. It settles down to the 650 rpm in neutral after about 3 or 4 minutes and is drivable. This just started happening about 1 month after an emission test. It failed the first time, and I had specialist analyze the problem and he was able to get it to pass. He said the idle mixture was little off, the o2 sensor was little lazy, he used clean fuel and he made a few other adjustments.
Sometimes when I slam the engine hood closed, the rpm rises and falls. This was happening even before the emission test. Lots of new parts on the car within the last 4 years: fuel pumps, valve job, rebuilt fuel distributor, plugs, wires, coil. 3 months ago I replaced the ICV and the idle controller in the passeneger foot well. I had water in the gas tank about 4 tanks ago, to the point where it did not start in 20 cranks. This was cleared-up by putting the pedal to the metal and holding it there while cranking until it started. Help!

Ovp
While the engine is running in park, I tapped the OVP and the engine accelerated. I guess it is a bad OVP.
