AC compressor knocking

My compressor has made a knocking noise for as long as I can remember but it is now alittle worse. About a month ago I topped it off with a can of R134a and now the air is alot cooler. Ever since the knocking has been alittle louder, and the air is still very cold. Does it need some oil or something? Thanks

It's more than likely made by lack of lubrication.

When refrigerant leaks the oil leaks out with it. Someone already suggested adding oil, I wil second that.

How do I add oil? I see cans of PAG oil, but how do I get it in the system?

Get oil into the compressor ASAP. Also check and make sure that the circuit is not over-fused. If that compressor gets close to letting go, you want the fuse to blow before it seizes up!

Don't ask me how I know this. :-(
