I just took my C230 in for the a maintence visit. The said that I would have to get a new air filter at the next service. I noticed that people said that I would have to buy a activated carbon cabin filter and regular air filters. I usually do all the basic stuff for my car so I was wondering where exactly are the filters located on this particular car. I look underthe hood and I noticed that there is a filter on the passenger side right above the battery assume this is the cabin filter because it looks like it connected to the AC unit. I've asked a couple of people and they tell me stuff about a filter under the glove box. Is there more than just that one cabin filter that i see under the hood. Far as the air filters I think that they are under the big plastic cover on top of the engine. I know that there are two of them ... Does anyone know exactly how to remove the covers. The first part snaps off but the other looks bolted not sure what they are using to hold it. Are there anymore filters than the one cabin filter and the two air filters?

Filters

The cabin air filter is the one above the battery which is very easy to remove and check for dirt. Just release the wire bails, tilt the housing down a bit and lift it up at the rear. My W203 '01 C320 also had a charcoal filter which had to be selected manually (push the button) which I very seldom did. As a result, I didn't even look at it in the 6.5 years I owned the car. The paper filter above the battery got dirty pretty fast and I changed it about once per year. Buy the filters anywhere but the dealer and expect to pay no more that $20. I never did locate the carbon filter and can't say where it is located but I do know that the W202's cabin air filters are located above the passenger's ankles behind a panel and perhaps that was what they were thinking about.
