external temp sensor, 2002 C230K Coupe

My car had been in the body shop for a few weeks due to a minor fender-bender. Now that I've picked it up, the external temperature reading is way off, currently 185 F. Another forum pointed to the external temp sensor which, some surmised, was probably unplugged. Anyone here know more specifically where I might look for evidence of this to plug it back in? I'm told the sensor is supposed to terminate in the little grill near the passenger side foglight:

Mine has three holes, and the left-most is empty. Is that where the sensor is supposed to be, or is the sensor still there in the right-most hole, and disconnected somewhere else in the line? Thanks for any help.
