95 E420, Oil Pessure Gauge, Ground Problem?
Hi All,
Just a couple of things left to bring the '95 E420 I bought recently to top form. The oil pressure gauge is pegged... even when the wire is disconnected from the sending unit. From what I've read here, this indicates that the gauge is grounded out? The only other clue that I have is that the lights on the left side of the cluster (oil level and coolant level) do not light with the key in the on position. If someone could give me an idea where to start, I would be very greatful. BTW, I have become addicted to this forum. Very enjoyable and informative! Best Regards, Steve Schwegler |

You may have a fault in the wire harness that goes to the alternator and the oil pressure gauge. I have done a few on the 400E's for that problem. One way to check is to find the wire that goes to the gauge on the back of the cluster using the wiring diagram in the CD we offer. Then cut that wire. If the gauge will fall and then go up when grounded, you have found the problem.

ah HA, Thanks Benzmac! Why didn't I think of that? Thanks for going to all the work it takes to keep this forum going. I shall certainly try that, having got the instructions for sliding out the cluster from the archives on this forum.
