'86 300E Running Rough...Please Help!

My 1986 300E just started running rough this morning.

Had it warmed up and running around 75mph when all of a sudden it started hesitating. It would slow down, speed up, and then catch and be fine. Almost felt like the fuel was cutting off. This happened twice then ran without issue for about 50 miles of highway driving.

I then stopped at the gas station, filled up and continued along. Problem started again at lower speeds this time. From a stop it was, I'd get up to about 35 mph and it would cut off, chug along for a bit and then it was fine.

Had to make another stop, it was fine for a bit then started again at highway speeds. Then problem started at any and all speeds, won't idle correctly and sputters constantly.

If anyone can help I would certainly appreciate it.

update;

TY for the response.

Just changed the aire and fuel filters. After running rough for about five minutes it seemed to straighten out. Ran for a few city miles and then about 10 miles on the eway. As soon as I came down to city speeds after being on the eway it started acting up again.

It has been a long time since I've had problems with water in the gas, but that is almost what it feels like. Could this be an issue?

Anything else I could look for?
