Not Starting...Help
Hello everyone. Ok I知 having a problem a problem getting my car to start. A quick background. I bought this car for very cheap because it was not running and the owner said it needed a new fuel distributor. Bought another fuel distributor and also it needed a new starter so that has been replaced also. The car will crank but will not run. It痴 currently at shop but they work on large diesel equipment, tractors etc. so this is not there area of expertise. This morning he said it may need a new injection control unit, which I could not find and I知 thinking he meant ignition control unit. Anyway I知 on the look out for one. He said that if he had the adapter for the scanner he would be able to tell what was causing the problem. Where could I get on of these? I feel I may be over my head. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, 420 SEL |

Before I purchased another Ignition Control Module, I would check the Crankshaft Position Sensor first. If it is defective, you will not get any spark. Also check the ignition coil. Good luck, Dave

no start
On my 77 450sl I had the same problem. If your model has a vacum advance, at distributor, check plastic and rubber lines. mine broke inside rubber line, and took a little checking to discover. replaced plastic line to advance and car started! good luck, Abe g

Push the disk plate in a bit and pour some gas into the intake. Then crank. This will identify if it's fuel or spark.
