Stripped modulator bolts

Yesterday in an attempt to remove the modulator on my 420sel, I stripped both screws that hold it in. What can I do? I want to avoid dropping the tranny if I have to.

OOOF!

Not good.

These are cap head screws, right?

I suspect your problem will be getting access to the fasteners, since the trans tunnel is close by.

You can drop the trans crossmember and tilt the tranny down at the rear and get some clearance.

Then it's either pound a larger hex key into the head or try to drill out the heads.

Yes I was so frustrated last night I just quit and started drinking beer instead. If I drop the trans crossmember, might I have to loosen the motor mounts and the driveshaft also to get it to lower? I just hate when a 30 dollar part keeps my machine from functioning. Besides, I really do not like driving the ML.
