w220 window regulator problems
2000 S430
The passenger front window won't go up all the way in auto mode. It will go up all the way in the normal mode. In auto mode, it acts like a trap sensor stops it at half way and lowers it about an inch. I've lubed the regulator, disconnected the door control module, R & R'd the window motor, without any luck. Does this regulator have a trap sensor? And, is it mechanical (i.e part of the regulator), or does it sense a spike in motor current?

Have you tried re-synching the window motor? Just hold the switch for a few seconds after closing the window in the manual mode. If you've done this and the window still doesn't work properly, the window motor is probably at fault. A good way to diagnose this correctly is to listen carefully to the motor while it's raising the window. The motor armature usually ends up with a worn spot after a few years of use. You can hear the change in the sound the motor makes as it passes this worn spot.

Thanks, ILUVMILS. I tried the re-sych first. I can't really here an audible difference when I run the window up and it passes the location where it reverses. But, my ears aren't as good as they used to be.
It sounds like you're saying that motor current tells the door module if there's an obstruction. Is that right? I really didn't want to order both the motor and the regulator. Now I'm leaning toward the motor.
