Unhappy 1983 500sl idle adjustment

Hello,

My 1983 500sl , the idle is kind of high, over 1000 rpm. How do I go about adjusting / lowering the idle ???? Please help. Thank you.

Tim

In light of my recent findings on my 500SEC, I'd check if the throttle position switch has failed, by unplugging it and jumpering across it's connector on the harness.

My car was idling at ~1000rpm, and dropped to ~700 when I jumped it with a wire.
(I've since replaced the wire with a piece of paper clip bent with a tight curve on either end, bent so it stays snug in the jack, just to get me by until I get the EFI conversion in place.)

The idle speed is electronically controlled - there is no adjustment.

Do a Search on "idle relay" or "idle air valve" and you'll find lots of information. A very popular topic.
