1992 190 e 2.6 driveability issues

Hello; I have a 2.6 w/163 k with the following repairs : head off valve grind, seals, guides, chain, plugs ,fuel filter, crank angle sensor and MAAB (fuel pump relay box) replaced.

Intermittently the following occur: Hot soak restart stall for first 3 min of operation-then fine (hasn't done this for a month) intermittent surging - missing under load .

sounds like an lifter is pecking when warm and uses a quart of oil 900 miles.

No oil leaks!

My last gas Benz was a 66 230s purchased at the factory and still have 4 diesels in the fleet. This 2.6 is making me nuts!

help..ideas..? Does it have a pre pump in the tank?

No pre-pump. The fuel pressure is retained in the system by check valves in the pump & the fuel pressure regulator at the engine. The car also has a fuel pressure accumulator next to the pumps.

Misfires are most likely a result of secondary ignition problems.

HAVE you checked the compression, possibly the lifters are holding the valves open??
