1995 S320 Will not start (Sometimes)

Unreliable starting. Turn the key to the start position and nothing. Dash light are illuminated etc. . Exact response as if trying to start the car while in gear.

This started about a month ago- had 3-4 occurences in a two week period. Let it sit for a while ( no specific length of time) as short as 3 hours, as long as overnight, and it starts fine on multiple successive tries.
There seems to be no correlation between the temperature of the engine and the symptoms.

Replaced the neutral safety switch two weeks ago, and no problem until this afternoon. This time I had driven the car 140 miles with 3 stops and starts. Turned off the car at 2p back at home ; went out to start at 5p and experienced the same symptoms as previously. Tried again about 7p and it started fine the first time and again on 3 successive times.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Possibly the ignition switch or starter?

My guess would be ignition switch. Can be very intermittant when they fail. Next time it wont start cycle the key a bunch of times (20+) quickly and then try to start it. If it starts after the workout then the switch will need to be replaced.

Arthur - "p" = PM I believe.

Does the 95' security only allow for a total of 200k turns of the key before everything has to be repalced like my 99' does? If so, you might not want to waste so many of them.

No, the 95 has unlimited turns, that is until the switch craps out.

No problem.
Just better to post back to the Forum..I get so many PMs that I just can't answer them anymore...I am on too many Forums.
The reason I want you to check that fuse is b/c that is feed for the Starter Interlock system and the Benz fuses have a bad habit of making a poor connection in the holders b/c of their design.. So, you wind up wih an intermittant no crank condition b/c of a poor fuse connection..you can just spin them in their holder , but I just tell guys to change them as a new one usually solves it if that was the cause. If not , then ign sw is next suspect b/c you have already changed out the NSS..
