swaping heads ?

i have a 88 190e 2.3 with the 8 valve cylinder head and would like to go to the 16 valve cylinder head. How hard is this ? is there extra parts that are needed or in need of upgrade aswell ? thanks

If it were easy, economically practical or otherwise recommended, every 8 valve owner in the world would have done it.

There are many specialized parts for the 16 valve. Find a 190E 2.3-16 instead.

The mere fact that you have to ask . . .

In addition to the head, intake and exhaust manifolds . . . the 2.3-16 uses different pistons, piston con rods, different crank . . . different oil pump . . . then there's the timing chain setup . . . so, yes you will be able to use the iron M102 block, but pretty much everything else has to go.

At the end of the day, you'd be able to buy a couple of used 2.3-16's by the time you paid for the parts and labor to convert an 8 valve.
