Euro Parts Help...
The local dealer couldn't find it and I don't have the parts software (US or Euro - I'm all thumbs RE: computers).
Car: '86 300SL Part: a 16MM aluminum nut/washer (one piece) that secures the trans fluid line(s) into the plastic jacket of the trans fluid cooling section of the radiator. The lines tie into the jacket on the rear (engine) side of the radiator jacket approx 3 inches from top of radiator and three from the bottom... Any help is appreciated - 2 trips to the dealer and one (wrong) order from Germany and car still can't move without these $3 nuts: ( Best regards, Kevin P.S. - having a senior moment - i can't think of what the computerized "parts manual" is called...

Are you sure that those lines aren't the engine oil cooler lines?

Electronic Parts Catalog . . . US version is free at MBUSA.com

As near as I can tell it's the international version that's free to U.S. residents - so that car should be covered. You could at least get a diagram and a part number.

About $12 a year to subscribe for the whole-world version. http://www.speed-autoteile.com is the source for German car parts from Germany. I've always given them the part number I want.

Tom - yes, they are trans cooler lines and EPC is what I couldn't remember.
Went back by the dealer on the way home after I posted (3rd try). Parts guy finally told me (after I asked to look at the screen of the EURO catalogue) - "We don' have the parts catalogue for Euros and we can't get Euro parts" All three times, I specifically stated it was a Euro... Anyway, I'll see if the EPC from MBUSA covers Euros. I thought I saw awhile back that US spec is free, but Euro EPC wasn't? I'll let ya's know. Regards, Kevin

Enter your VIN on the EPC to see if it will display parts for your car anyway. I have only the free EPC subscription and entered the VIN for my Euro 380SE and was able to view parts for my car. Good luck. Mark

Even without entering a specific VIN about 3 layers into the U.S version menu it gives you a choice of Europe or North America and if you click on Europe it still seems to work just fine.

Oy!
Thanks compress, went right to it.
Why OY! you ask? Clicked on the 300SL (107.041), went to radiator, exploded view shows the part (#23) perfectly. Scroll down the part list and #23 isn't listed! Does this mean NLA? Regards, Kevin

If you click on the "23" you get a message that the part isn't valid for your car. This may be a mistake in the catalog.
I tried it on a 420SL and came up with 000 990 24 50. If your dealer is still dazed and confused, tell them that it can be found as #25 on the same radiator parts diagram for a US SL500 or 600. The Search function on the EPC is good for cross-referencing a part across models.

Whoever said that is an idiot, of course they can look up parts for Euro-spec cars. I do it all of the time for the two that I have. Find another (competent) parts employee. Some certain euro parts are blocked, requiring you to prove you own the car for them to be able to order it.
