300E B2 Valve?

Greetings Forum Members,

Is it possible to change the B2 valve without removing the transmission from the car on a 1990 300E 3.0 ?
I have a beatter that has lost its forward gears. I can get it to move forward, with much difficulty, just to maneuver it around my driveway and backyard to work on. The reverse gear works fine.
I changed the tranny oil and filter with no change in function. The fluid was very dark and just to mention the torque converter drain plug was looking right at me when I pulled the pan so that got drained too.
Does this sound like a B2 valve problem to anyone else?
Any and all responses relating to this issue would be most appreciated.

Knarf
