94 E320 A/C issues

Ok, I am perplexed with the latest in the saga of getting my climate control working. I have fixed the prolonged crank issue I had by changing a big metal relay on the passenger side firewall.

Shortly thereafter, my A/C just cut off. Air blew, but only hot. Took it in and the mechanic noticed on the drivers side fender the PO changed the MB fuse strip to a pigtail with a 30A fuse that basically melted. When we opened the fuse box we saw fuse #2 was completely cooked and it looked like it was cooking. We pulled all of that out and replaced everything with fresh fuses and the AC ran cold, fine BUT only in low speed and in middle or high fan speed the AC would die and blow hot.Now the air only blows warm at any setting and I checked the fuses and all where fine...

Can anyone offer me any direction on this issue, it is frustrating me.

The compressor no longer engages either? Or, it engages, but you still get warm air?
