sunroof help
car: 1987 300E
I know the sunroof is broken, and it is broken at the mechanical plastic pieces that move the sunroof back and forth, up and down. The pieces are broken partly because I had broken them trying to get the damn thing to shut when it was stuck open. I know that to fix them, the sunroof has to be able to slide back to remove the headliner. However, since the cable is disconnected from the roof (with no way to fix it I might add), how might I go about removing the headliner so I can get at the sunroof and fix the plastic mechanisms (well replace them with my junkyard parts)?

Awesome pictures, these will definitely help when I tackle this project.
I'm still curious though, if the slide has been disconnected from the roof, how can I get the sunroof liner off?

Have you tried to gently slide it (the S'roof) backwards by hand?
If you can get it to slide back... then you can unclip the front underside of the headliner portion...and remove the headliner out from above the opening.

Update:
Sunroof is fixed (albeit not perfect, but it works again!). I ended up just pulling the headliner down from the front and disconnecting the metal part of the roof by sliding the headliner back. Followed installation in reverse of what I took apart in the junkyard. As I said, it works, not perfectly, but it does work. Could use some lubrication I think...
