1988 300E rough run and completely stops sometimes

I have an intermittent problem and one that is all the time. The intermittent problem is that sometimes my car will just die at speed and you will have to turn of the car and then re-start it. sometimes it will start right back up and other times you have to let it sit for about 5 minutes. This problem has gone on for a couple years now, but is so sporadic that it is hard to fix.

My other problem is that my car is running like it is missing a cylinder. I have replaced all the plug wires and installed a new distributor rotor. I took it into the Benz repair shop I go to and they wouldn't really look at it because I needed a bunch of tune-up types stuff like the rotor, so I replaced those myself to save the coin, but I would like to try everything I can before I pay the labor involved. Any ideas would be helpful.

I don't know if this is related or not, but yesterday I filled up my car, full tank, not overflowing. I drove about 27 miles so I know I used a minimum of one gallon of gas. After an hour of being parked I came to my car and could smell a little gas. I opened the fuel door and saw a littl moisture. I opened my gas cap and the gas spewed out in volume. I quickly put the cap on. Is this normal that the gas tank can get this pressured to where gas comes out in force? what causes this?

thanks for any ideas

Ironic, because I got a call from work today from my brother saying the 300E (1987) was dripping (from somewhere) and smelled like gas. Turns out he's an idiot and either lost the gas cap or someone stole it. One more thing I need to fix when I take it back .

I'm going through the entire fuel line in my head. And maybe I'm missing something, but your could try replacing you fuel cap. May not be allowing enough air in. Thus causing the pressure in the gas tank.

I know I didn't answer your first question, but I'm at a lose. A MB tech should be able to figure it out. Unless it something as simple as a gas cap .

I'm no MB Tech, but I drove one for years.

Good luck
