1994 E320 harness replaced but still issues
Hi everyone! I have been browsing for a while (since I got my car). I bought it knowing the CEL was on and it had a couple more issues. My main concern at the time was that the car was getting hot. I took it to a shop and they replaced the harness, that problem was soleved, and even the CEL was solved, until about a week later. The check engine light came on again and the radio stopped working, I can hear the static noise throught the speakers, but nothing else. The antena goes crazy sometimes when I try to turn the radio on, it goes up an down, but no music.
Has anyone have a clue as to what could be causing this? Thanks, mmullins ![]() ![]() ![]() |

My CEL was caused by the O2 sensor failure. New sensor fixed that. Had to reset the CEL afterwards to get the light to go off.
Go to Auto Zone and have them read the codes(if any) for free. Give you an idea of what's going on. As for the antenna/radio, pull out the head unit and check for secure connections. There might be an outside chance your ignition switch is wearing out. Internally, the connections may be grounding out on each other. |

Having the charging system tested first is a good starting point.

Regarding the radio and antenna. Maybe "trigger" circuit in radio is going bad. Symptoms similar mine to yours. Trigger is blue wire at antenna and back of radio. Search "antenna trigger wire" and "radio removal" for more info & pics if you DIY.
You mentioned engine wire harness replaced and "other issues". Although not for CEL, the Battery aka "B" Harness if not replaced could cause problems. "B" Harness connects: Oil level = Brown/Black [left side, front, bottom of oil pan] Oil Pressure = Brown/Green [left side, below oil filter] Solenoid = Purple/White [on starter]. Main battery cable is usually ok. It's the smaller wires that have bad insulation. If handy you can easily replace them. Be careful with junction block to reuse & solder ends to wires. Bob PS Good to disconnect battery when messing with B Harness |
