A little help with codes please!
1993 190E 2.6.
Coming home this afternoon my CEL came on. I checked the codes on the DM by the battery and got an 8, and an 11. Can anyone advise me on what these mean and suggest methods of trouble shooting? The car seems to be running just fine, and the fuel consumption seems normal. Thank you in advance, David PS. After a bit of searching I have discovered that a code 8, refers to "Altitude Pressure Signal from the EZL Ignition Control Unit", and a code 11 points to "Air Injection System" ?!? Are these two systems inter related some how? I had just checked the codes two weeks ago and all was clear. Should I just clear them and see if they come back ?

There is a plastic vac line that goes from the intake to under the engine front cover and hooks to the AIR system SOV . They crack/break from heat fatique. Pull the cover and check it ..if bad, replace w/rubber vac line the full length.
Clear codes................

Thanks Arthur, I will do that tomorrow. Question... SOV...does that mean shut off valve?

8) is relating to data exchange from ignition module about altitude compensation.
11) is about the operation of the air injection system. As Arthur pointed out, can be related to disconnected vacuum lines.

SOV = Switch Over Valve . . that feeds the AIR pump. Usually a broken vac line . . every once in a while it's the SOV.

I'll do that and report back.
The funny thing is that I meant to replace all the vacuum lines a year ago when I got the car, as part of establishing a baseline. I just never got around to spending the 1/2 an hour and $8.00 worth of vacuum line. ![]() I did all the fluids, filter, ignition components, and check the brakes....just forgot about the vacuum lines. The engine seems to run much smoother than it did yesterday.

Yeah..why fix a few vac lines when gas is so cheap.....
![]() Your fist tip off [ before CE and codes] was a crap running engine. I'll bet we could diagnose vac leak as the cause on every Emissions Code/CE lamp and be correct 75% of the time.

Alright, I just cold started the engine and heard the smog pump run for maybe 2-3 minutes before it cut out. I went for a drive with the AC on and got it up to operating temp, came home and checked the codes again.....just 1 blink.....could that be it? I mean it is kind of anti-climatic (in a good way), but could I be done for now?

Single Flash means the N/59 diagnostic module has done all emmissions self test and they all pass , so you have remedied the fault that originally brought on the code and activated the CE Warning lamp................

Wow! I am so used to pulling out the credit card every time I have a problem with my cars..... it is something of a surprise to effect a repair on a lunch break and some pocket change.
Thank you for your help Arthur, and also to M.B.DOC and JimF who chimed in. Maybe someday I'll be able to help someone else out, I'm learning every day.

You'r Welcome...........
Thanks for the appreciation. We are used to arguments on diagnosis , or no reply after the fact/outcome, so a Thanks and a final reply on the remedy is always cool.........and we remember those next time around ...... ![]()
