Helping the neighbor, need help myself.

I need mental help for taking on such a project but the next door neighbor asked me to help her daughter that just moved in back from LA. While moving north they ran over a retread with the uhaul and busted the GEO METRO bumper while towing it. I was able to repair it enough to remove the bungy cords that were holding it in place.

I met the daughter earlier today pretty easy on the eyes, she informed me that the car failed the CA smog test, looking at the results the emmissions test was passed but the FUEL EVAP TEST Failed as well as the IGNITION TIMING 10 BTDC.

Any ideas how i can check the Fuel evap test, the gas cap test passed.

I'll bet there was NO precautionary maintenance work done to the car either. That's how I got this Euro 500SEC. No maint. and a cold car +no pass.

The evap functional test is new since Jan 1 2007. they pressurize the fuel tank and pinch shut the evap fume hose between the cannister and the gas tank and it has to hold the pressure .
It''s easy on a MB if you get the air rush when cracking the gas cap to fill it, then you'll pass the Evap functional test.
If not you have to make sure all the connections are secure and put in a new tank vent valve. I am going to put in a new Charcoal Cannister if I can find one.
I'm going through the same thing on my Euro 500SEC right now.

Don't have a clue about the Geo Metro.
