What's that in the pic?

Hi!! I was fiddling with the car the other day and found this (red circle in pic below).. It seems like a resistor, I tried changing it and the car for some reason felt a bit quicker?

What does this thing do? Some told me it's some kind of retard sensor. I only put premium in the car. Which setting gives me the most horsies?

actually it is a resistor that when moved will alter the ignition timing, it is known as a R/16 resistor,

Don't fiddle with it! This resistor is highly sensitive and would play havoc on your engine if improperly set.
