600SEL transmission

93 600sel transmissio takes several seconds to go into reverse. If on a hill car will roll while waiting for xmission to engage. Once engaged does not slip if brake held and engine is revved. Forward works fine on up shifts and down shifts.?
Any comments of this problem? Thanks

First Check transmission fluid level and correct if necessary. If full, worn B3 clutches is the most common cause of delay into reverse, transmission must be remove for a fix, at this point you should just have it rebuilt

600SEL Trans

It was normal for trannies of that era to delay engagement up to 5 seconds. It was intended to fix the harsh engagement problem.
There is a modification shown in programmed repairs that involves a pop-rivit in the valve body but few people do it.
