got through the spark plug change real easy. now getting ready for the oil change but whoa. the dealer gave me a filter cartridge (it says 104 on it) but i'm not sure where the filter housing really is. i even asked if the 2.8 had a different filter and they said no. from the DIY pages i can see something that looks like a screw-on filter in the back, in which case i have to ask - did i get the right part from the dealer? there is also something on the driver side in front of the engine which a local mech pointer at and said that's it (also has some kind of oil line attached to it). but there's a rubber knob sitting on top of it with directional arrows that don't say anything else. help!!!

ps. yeah finally got a cd manual on ebay but it ain't here yet, my dumb questions oughta lessen shortly...

The oil filter housing is located on the driver's side of the engine near the firewall. The thing that looks like a spin on filter is a cover. Unscrew it and the filter will come out with it.

The reservior at the front of the engine is for power steering fluid.

Filter housing is on the drivers side near the fire wall. What you see is the cap - remove it and you will see the top of the filter like what you have in your hand. The thing near the front is the power steering fluid reservoir.

is it supposed to be hand tightened or do i need a special tool? will a filter wrench work like the strap type or one of those caps?

A strap wrench will probably work, but there is a special tool available. I'm sure there's a torque value for it, but I just snug it down gently.

You can purchase the oil filter wrench for your car from a number of places to include this site(perhaps?) or:

or you can simply take your Knecht/Mann/Hengst filter down to Pep Boys/Auto Zone/whatever and buy a spin-on filter wrench that fits. Turn it down hand tight, then give it just a bit of snugging up. Don't forget to coat the oil filter gasket with oil before installing.
