adjustment collar on belt tensioner need information

I have a 1986 190e 2.3
my question is installing the adjustment collar on the tensioner. my understanding is there are 2 versions. my tensioner has a longer smaller diameter adjustment rod and does not have left handed treads. so turning clockwise the rod is pulling the collar. my question is the position of the collar-rod attaching point.
1. is it mounted on top of the shaft?
2. is it attached forward of the shaft..meaning the hole on the collar where the rod goes through be positioned on the passenger side or right side being drivers direction.
thanks
