W124 eccentric bolt replacement

1993 300D; one of the front control arm eccentric bolts is worn (eccentric washer tab worn-nut side) this is preventing a good alignment (negative camber).

My question is can this bolt be replaced without spring compressor, and dismantling the control arm?

Can I put a jack under the control arm and knock out the eccentric bolt with a hammer? Will the control arm move so as to not be able to line up holes and get new eccentric bolt to go in? (each control arm has two eccentric bolts). The one that needs replacement is the one towards the front.

It isn't exactly easy, but it can be done. One hint is to place a line up shaft into the hole to drive out the bolt. It will then hold the hole from moving out of sight. If the proper shaft is used it can then lever the hole around to line up the other side for install.

Good idea on the starter shaft! I will first replace just the rear nut eccentric washer and see if that works. Now for the bigger problem;

Upon further inspection, the front area (bolt head-side) "u weld" that the eccentric washer turns against is worn down and the eccentric washer does not catch and turns over it. Is it possible to build it back up by welding? JB Weld?

Thanks

What I typically see is that the ridge has been smashed flat. It often can be straightened back to a usable position with a hammer and variety of drivers/chisels.

If it has been worn off by accident, etc, it could be built back with weld, not JB weld.

I have also used other persuation to get the bolt properly positioned in its hole for alignment and then once securely tightened it will stay in place.

Good call Steve! The ridge could be just bent over or smashed flat, I will see.

Car was in an accident before I bought it.

What kind of welding?- oxy-ace? weld new metal or braze a rod on it?

Thanks.

Just inspected. Looks like a piece of weld is missing. It is not bent or smashed.

I will need to build it up or weld a piece on.

What type of weld and proceedure?
