Well, I celebrated to soon. I drove the car home, about 20 minutes, picked up my daughter to go get my truck and within 10 minutes the car started doing the same thing again....

this thing is about to whip my tail and my pocketbook.

If you have any other ideas....I would certainly welcome them.

I'm telling you - It is behaving just like a faulty Air Mass Meter or one that needs it's adaptation values reset! Let's hope they sold you the correct one for your vehicle! According to my sources, the part number for your '97 C280 should be W0133-1601180. It will be engraved right on the body of the unit.

Also, be sure that both the male and female electrical connectors to it are squeeky clean and fit securely! CRC makes a MASS AIR CLEANER spray that is ideal for this! Under $5.00 at any auto parts distributor.

Good luck, I know the frustration you are experiencing!

Jerzeeshor,

I tried two different new sensors, one from Mercedes and the other from ********. Neither made the car act any different and both were the correct part number.

I am frustrated and stuck. Not sure whewre to go from here except to tell my daughter not to drive it more than 1/2 hour at a time.

All,

Still have not got this car running. It is experiencing the same problem, cutting out after heating up for about 1/2 hour. WE have replaced the fuel filter, tried two different MAF sensors, replaced the plug wires and connectors, tried a new coil pack on all positions replaced the Crankshaft position sensor, all to no avail. I noticed another sensor I havn't replaced and that is the camshaft position sensor. Although the last thing I want to dois put another dollar in it I am stuck. Could this sensor going bad cause this problem.

Again...the car run's great for a short period of time but after 1/2 hour starts cutting out and gets worse the hotter it gets.

Any help/thoughts are greatly appreciated.

John

I believe you said the CPS fixed it fora short while. Maybe it wasn't the CPS, but the connector for the CPS - backed out pin, frayed wire, etc... I think that you might be money ahead at this point to take it up to Tucker, GA and have M. B. Doc fix it for you - having the proper test equipment will make the difference, as Arthur says, a scope on the CPS sensor when the car is failing would show whether or not that is the problem.

I agree..

Unfortunately, the ONLY way to find that problem is in-situ condition with a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel test port [ fuel rail] and a scope on the Ignition.
That will tell the tale.

....and possible codes right after condition corrects.

Thanks for the input. I am very open to taking it to M.B. Doc up in tucker, it's not that far out of the way.

M.B. Doc...do you do the service at home or at the dealer?

This is a very interesting thread. I have a C220 and have been eyeing to get a C280 hence my interest. Don't want to throw another monkey-wrench but I'm wondering if the fuel pump is going bad. Fuel pumps are notorious for showing erratic symptoms such as what you described.

Again, I apologize throwing in another possibility but I was actually suspecting this right off when I started reading the thread today. If there is a way to test the pump.....

tobybul,

It's been a good car up to this point, solid and pretty quick.

the garage has checked the pressure of the sytem while the car was in it's trouble mode. this was one of the first things I thought. What they are waiting for now is another C280 to come into the shop so they can switch out ECM to see if that might be the problem. I still think it is somehting simple that is being overlooked but I am probably wrong.
