190 overheat,help
When I was stuck in traffic in the airport I noticed the temperature is reaching the red mark so i just park the vehicle before reaching the redline even I rev the engine the fan will spin faster the temp still go high .I notice that my auxilary fan is not working even if I turned on the A/C and the temp. reach 100+ deg. I will change the thermostat tomorrow to eliminate it.Can somebody tell me where is the exact location of the auxilary fan relay? and how many pins are there.Take note I just bought this car a couple of months and I have no service history,I think I have a different aux. relay on the slot (if I'm right of the location of the relay)I check the aux fan by connecting the switch in the a/c drier and they are working fine so I think the culprit is the relay. The coolant is in perfect level.Help me out guys

do a search - there is a fuse on top of a relay on the drivers side behind the fuse box that has to have a higher amperage fuse installed. You do not want to run the car with the temp indicator in the red.

Also check the sensors. There are 3 sensors starting from the end of the block. The first one at the end of the block is for engine/coolant temperature, the second one is the for the sending unit and third one-2 pronged blue sensor is for the aux fan (105 -115c) and may this could be faulty. Use a multimeter to check resistance on the 3rd sensor. If you don't have one, Sears has one on sale for $9.99. Check your service manual for correct resistance values. It is either your thermostat, sensor or fuse and all these parts are very cheap to replace. Good Luck

Sorry for the late response, I was out all day. Okay, when you open the hood and look down on the engine, these sensors are located about an inch to the right of the valve cover (between the valve cover and air filter housing) & screwed into the block itself. The sensors are located in sequence starting at the end of the block near the oil filter and comes towards the fan. The aux fan sensor is the third one located next the air filter housing. If pull the wire from the sensor, you will notice that it has two prongs with a blue base. Hope this helps. I will try to attach a picture of the sensor and post it again.

Sorry I can't get the picture into this text editor. Also you had asked me about the aux relay earlier. I did not touch the relay so I don't know how many pins it has.

190 overheating
First, I understand from various sources that rare excursions into the 100 mark are not uncommon or dangerous. Still, I'd also fret.
I'm no expert but I did have the same problem with my 190. The same circuit protects the AC unit also protects the fan on my car and the fuse was good, BUT the brass prongs that hold thge fuse were corroded slightly. I cleaned them and greased them and the fan works. (Hell, clean 'em all!) I also replaced the thermostat and noticed that the car ran cooler so the thermo might have been sticking a bit. If this works, it's the cheapest advice of the day! gwinn |
