What year CAR??

The 1988-91 300SEL's used a 722.3 trans & reverse clutch failure is VERY common.

What year - Good question. What miles? Also, why was a quart added? Was it low? Has it been run low on fluid? Was it fine before the fluid was added?

Also, I hate to hear that about that problem on the 722.3 transmissions since I just bought a 88' 300SEL. So far, no problems.

Is that a costly repair when it does fail? Prevention? Would regular maintenance and gentle use prevent issues, or does that even matter?

a lot of problems are caused these days[because of age]by crud and debris in the valve body.before i went anywhere else i would pull valve body and have it o/hauled.it needs doing anyway and if you had no syptoms before just may be the cause.
