Euro 300D with NO A/C
Hi,
I have found a 300D Euro model stright shift. I really like the car and it has many good qualities that I desire except that it doesn't have A/C. Can anyone guide me as to how much of a task it would be to add one? I am very mechanical so the dryer, condensor, compressor installed doesn't worry. I am worried about trying to install electronics inside and understand what must be done to modify evaprator. Thanks, Morph |

I don't know who the vendors are, but I know that there are very decent aftermarket a/c's for these cars. I have two Euro 123's with US installed aftermarket air. The controls fit in the panel and look much like non climate control factory air controls. They will require your setting the temp and fan speed manually but work well.
Good luck, |

If you go to aircondition.com or acsource.com and hammer around on those sites, there are several suppliers of aftermarket a/c's and components. There is one in Arizona that seems to supply lots of things like this.
Good luck, |

Morph,
You did not mention the year or chassis type, but like Larry, I have imported a number of W123 cars in the past and had to install A/C here, and then later I had the system installed by the dealer over there. They were Bosch kits for the W123 cars and had the same control schemes as the non-climate control units available as the factory installed system in markets outsie the US. I did learn that when you have them installed it is apparently a little extra work to properly connect the outside vents on the dash so they have heat and a/c coming from them, depending on the control position. The easy way only sends fresh or air conditioned air through them. The last time I did this was 1985 and do not recall the vendor. He was in White Plains, New York though. There was ot trouble locating someone to do this then, and suppose it is the same now. Any local A/C specialists should be able to handle the job as the guys doing my cars were not making a living working on Mercedes-Benz cars, they handled anything with A/C. Jim

Sorry, forgot to mention this is a 85 300D with a manual transmission. The title only has 14 digits/letters and it begins with 123 a sure EURO sign.
I just think have a 300D with a manual is neat. Body is in good shape with little rust. I live in Flordia so I must have AC. Thanks for all your replies, Morph |
