Wurring noise in back of E200 Estate

Guys, I have got a wuring noise seeming to come from the back of my E200 estate - It's not the exhaust and the car is running fine. It is intermittent and as always, when I get out to see if I can locate it, it goes away !! any thoughts what it might be please ? could it be fuel pump ?

Many thanks

W124, W210 or W211? Year might help too.

yea that might help !

It's a W210 1996 - the thing to add to this, is it happens when the car is stationary as well (I'm assuming it happens when driving, but with road onise etc it is not so obvious). So this indicates it's not the axle / diff ... it also is more luke a wuring/buzzing noise ...... grateful for any help

Sounds like typical fuel pump noise, but I'm not familiar with your model. My 126 makes quite a bit of pump noise, which is even more audible because the shroud is missing.

How about the PSE pump under the rear seat? It should be on the right side.
