$973.12 Repair bill. 2000 C280

My wife took my 2000 C280 one day and hits a large pot hole on the highway. I drove the car the next day and noticed the car pulling to the right and said"I better get alignment done before it gets worse considering its my daily driver" I took it to my local shop and the bil came to $973.12. The work done was: 1. remove and replace front springs - $108.75
2. parts where suspension springs $160.00. wheel straightening- $125.00
3. remove and replace center sterring tie rob assembly- $195.75
4. tire rod assembly- $260.00
5. front end alignment- $59.95
6. good ole NYS sales Tax- $63.67
All adding up to $973.12
Does this seem like a fair price? All work done at a independant shop.

Was that a pot hole or a sink hole?

"My wife took my 2000 C280 one day and hits a large pot hole on the highway."

When someone damages my car, I generally expect them to pay for the repairs. Why not just ask your wife to pay for it?

I'm surprised about the front springs, in what way were the springs damaged?

You said the car was pulling, was your steering wheel vibrating?

I did research and found this to actually be very reasonable. As far as pot hole or sink hole. Lord knows especially upstate NY with our bad road systems. The sterring wheel was not shaking at all smooth ride belive it or not. The car just kept pulling to the right and I do all highway(70mph) and I just didn't want it to get bad.

What is it with new cars, they can't take any abuse. I slammed my 280CE in a pretty big hole in the road at about 40MPH and everything was fine except for the hubcap that sent flying through the air, haha.

Maybe Saratoga Springs was actually named for the propensity to replace suspension springs there??
The rates seem reasonable for the work performed, but it sounds very unusual that the springs would break from a pothole.

The spring replacement confounds me as well...must have been one helluva pothole!

Alloy wheels can be straightened...I've seen severely-beaten rims from a Baja racer brought to near-new condition...I had a bent alloy on a former car straightened for $25...couldn't tell it was ever damaged.

I suspect the shop would have charged something like $600 if they had to replace the wheel!

No the spring issue was overtime and it just could not wait any longer. I think it needed it about a month ago and I just didnt want to let it go anymore. The pot hole Im guessing only bent the rim and over the past week the more driving the more it became out of wack.

Happens, when you hit stuff things bend. The price sounds pretty fair to me.

Of course our highway system dont help here either. I will agree again that that price is very fair after doing some research.
