Smile 1993 300TE (wagon)

Hi. Thinking about buying one and just wondering if this model has any trouble spots. It looks to be in good condition with 89,000 miles on it. It looks to be the the inline 6 cylinder which was the same engines used in the E320 '94 and '95. Do this car have the electrical thing that erodes or was that only on the '94 and/or '95? Sorry for my mechanical doofyness because I just know how to check the oil, but have an excellent mechanic....

Lance

If it's a rwd it's a 3.2 liter 104 motor that does have a bad original wiring harness, which has probably already been replaced. If it's a 4-matic it's a 3.0 liter 103 motor and does not have the wiring harness problem.

I'm obviously biased but the W124 wagon just might be the best overall benz ever built. Have that mechanic of your check it out (he'll know about the wiring harness issue) and be prepared to spend a little to get all systems running properly - we all have. Go for it if it checks out!

Does the wiring harness have more to do with time rather than miles? The car has 90,000 miles on it and has been in Florida all of its life.

Also, does this motor have the head gasket issue? I had a '95 and had to have that redone at 40,000 miles -- a nightmare!

The wire harness will be a problem regardless of miles, and hot-climate cars have other rubber and wiring hardening issues.

'>I believe that the '93 has the M104 engine, but the KEIII injection system and a distributor, not the '94/'95 system. >

"93 104 is HFM/SFI with DIS [ Distrubutorless Ignition System]

......Full Electronic/Coil Over/ Waste Spark...........just like the 94/95 systems...exactly the same engine 104.992

For info regarding 124 "Wagon" see my posts in these threads:

1995 wagon purchase

1995 wagon purchase

In addition, I was able to put Phoenix Gold Ryval 4" speakers in the rear doors.
