doors won't stay opened

i have an 86 420sel, i have a problem with my doors staying opened. unless i'm parked facing down, any door will swing shut (usually into my head) now i do have a hard head but i'm worried about damaging the door frame. i'm guessing it's the "bump stop" between the two hinges. any help i could get would be great, name of part (and do i need to buy new or adjust and where it's available) thanks

I'll wager that when the interior door cards are removed, you'll find the ball bearing(s) from the door check at the bottom of the inside of the door shell.

its a spring on the hinges, you could fix it if you have body repair experience, if you dont it might be hard to align the door properly for you.

Are you sure that information is correct for this car? Please look at the link in post 2. It is the door check that needs to be replaced, if post 2 is correct.

mpolli is right. You need to replace the door check strap, not a spring. ArnoldLewis often weighs in on issues when he probably shouldn't.
