heater blowing fuses

300D 1983 258K When I put the heater blower motor on high and it melts the fuse thats in the fuse box. A few times it has popped the fuse but last time it melted the fuse to a plastic puddle. I though it might be cheap fuses so I put in a factory fuse and within A minute on high it was hot enough to burn my finger. I pulled the blower motor it looks OK no apparent problems. I will admit I do have a leaking windshield. But now it does it on dry days too. The dam blower motor is over 400- I am broke.

Can anyone tell me is there anything else that could be causing the fuses to melt or blow. I have been using 16 Amp thats what the cover says to use. Seems small by todays standards. Thanks in advance Channing

Run a new outside the fuse box aux fuse holder and use heavy wires..
The later chassis all had seperate , outside fuse holder b/c of the common problem you are having..they even had a kit to convert them.
You have to attach to the wires under the existing holder..you will see they are in bad shape.
