......Postscript to this mess! I had the hood in the full upright position...you should see the ceiling! Never mind the wall, and the floor on the other side of the car...thank god the next bay was empty!

Oh...off topic sorta...you know them warnings in french under the hood? (Mise en garde!!) I always think of a mouse with a sword when I read that....but I am a little bent ....

Had the instrument cluster out of mine and had to move the car. The oil pressure line pumped warm oil into my crotchal area. Actually felt kinda good. But what a mess.

I only did this on the Bug, but I left a socket wrench hanging onto the alternator pulley bolt and forgot. Then I started the car.

Took me an hour to find the wrench in my neighbor's back yard...

First weekend in a new house (many years ago),the next door neighbor came over to chat as I changed the oil in my 65 Olds. He said that he was a mechanic at the local Ford dealer ship and was glad to see that I worked on my own car. As I poured in the last Quart of oil I saw him step back an embarrassed look on his face he said looking at his feet "Bill I'm afraid you forgot to put drain plug in " Sure enough to my udder dismay I watched as five quarts of oil seeped out from under the car.....

ever forget to take the socket and ratchet off the crank pulley after doing a valve adjustment? Glad the old Honda didn't catch right away, it was a horrible sound at starter speeds.

I also had the instrument panel out of my '75 300D while I was replacing my blower motor. I got in the car to go somewhere and I still had the cluster out. I didn't think anything of it until about 100 feet when I realized that my leg was getting wet, and it was quickly getting warmer. I quickly realized what it was and placed my thumb over the oil tube to stop the flow. Boy! that oil was HOT by then. I turned around but I had to stop the engine when it got too hot for my thumb. I had to put the cluster back in before I could move the car.

I did my valve guide seals in my M103 a little while ago and sometime later thought I heard something funny. I took the valve cover off and could’nt find anything humorous so I thought duplicate the conditions. I started it and being aware of the potential shower I kept the revs down, that kept the mess to a minimum. I thought this is an unusual event and looked pretty neet so I got out my digital camcorder and taped the valve gear running. Someday when I get one of those round things, I think they call them tuits, I’ll download it and e-mail it to everyone I know who knows how to turn a screw without stripping it.

My wife had a Datsun 210 that had a oil leak in her dash, but no oil pressure gauge. It turned out to have been the seal in the speedometer cable connection on the transmission leaking and it was pushing oil all the way up the speedo cable, even though it was a stick (please refer to the thread regarding lubricating speedometer cables:p )
